Agricultural and Farmland Protection Planning and State Funding Programs Are The Topics of the Cattaraugus County Planning Board Annual Meeting

The Cattaraugus County Planning Board will hold its Annual Meeting on June 13, 2007 at the Seitz's Country Lodge, 1005 North Main Street (Route 16), Delevan, New York. John Brennan, Farmland Protection Specialist, NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets and Joan Petzen, Chair of the Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board, will be the Keynote Speakers.
On March 28th, 2007 the Cattaraugus County Legislature officially adopted the Cattaraugus County Agricultural and Farmland Protection Plan. Within this plan are a total of eleven general recommendations, seven that pertain to economic and business development and four that relate to agriculture and farmland protection.
It is the designated task of our County's Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board to prioritize and then implement the Plan's recommendations. Joan Petzen, Chair of the Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board, will detail the current status of the Plan's implementation.
With the adoption of the County Plan, each of our towns are now eligible for New York State funding to develop, revise or adjust agricultural sections of their planning documents. John Brennan, Farmland Protection Specialist with the New York State Department of Agriculture & Markets, will discuss this funding program for 2007 and other farmland protection programs that are available through the Department of Agriculture & Markets.
The Equine Advisory Committee will have a display table with information concerning equestrian activities during the Refreshment Hour. They will also give a brief update on their activities prior to the dinner hour.
The meeting will begin at 5:00 pm with registration and Hors d'oeuvres. The Equine Advisory Committee will give a brief update on their activities at 6:00 pm, followed by the Annual Dinner (buffet at a cost of $15.00 per person). At 7:00 pm, the County Planning Board's Annual "Brooks Patterson Community Leadership Award" will be presented, followed by the Keynote Speakers at 7:15 pm, with adjournment at 8:30 pm.
