Holiday Party schedule at County Nutrition Sites
Cathy Mackay, director of the Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging, has announced plans for the Senior Wellness and Nutrition program holiday meals in December. Mrs. Mackay declared, "Dining with friends at a nutrition site is more fun than riding in Santa's sleigh on Christmas night!"
On Thursday, December 18, a Christmas dinner fit for Santa and all his elves will be served. The menu will consist of baked ham with fruit sauce, green bean casserole, au gratin potatoes, sliced pineapple, cranberry orange muffins, and homemade cherry cheesecake for dessert.
The fun isn't over yet because we still have to ring in the New Year! On Wednesday, December 31, 2014, the nutrition sites will be serving a good luck dinner of roasted pork loin and gravy (pig symbolizes progress for the new year), long noodles (to signify longevity), red cabbage (the more you eat, the more prosperous you will be...and healthier too) corn muffins with margarine (having color that resembles gold), oranges, and coconut sno-cakes for dessert (nothing lucky about them - they are just yummy).
Reservations are required 24 hours in advance of the dinners and can be made by calling the nutrition site in the following communities:
- Allegany (372-6376),
- Cattaraugus (257-3035),
- Delevan (492-2543),
- Franklinville (676-3993),
- Gowanda (532-5598),
- Portville (933-7080),
- Randolph (358-5656),
- South Dayton (988-5037),
- and West Valley (942-6695).
The Little Valley site is closed on Thursdays, so they will hold their Christmas dinner on Friday, December 19. You can make reservations in Little Valley by calling 938-6066.
There is a suggested voluntary contribution of $3.50 for a meal; however, no one will be denied a meal due to inability or unwillingness to contribute.
