Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC)

PTAC announces “RFID” (Radio Frequency Identification) training for small businesses.

The US Department of Defense published its final policy guidelines for the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags for the shipment of products within its supply chain. RFID tags became mandatory in DoD contracts issues as of Oct. 1, 2004, for delivery of material on or after Jan. 1, 2005. RFID tags on pallets and shipping containers help track thousands of shipments to America’s war fighters. The RFID tags are being phased in over a three period and the plan calls for full implementation by January 2007.

What does this mean? How does it affect you the small business owner?

The Cattaraugus County PTAC and MPI Label Systems are teaming up to hold a presentation for small businesses on June 20, 2006. The presentation will be at the County Center, 303 Court St., Little Valley, NY at 1:00 PM on the third floor in the large committee room. Any business doing business or wanting to do business with the DoD is invited to attend. Businesses will learn what the RFID is, how it will be implemented and what options there are for a business to sell to the DoD. There is no charge for this seminar.

You can register for the seminar on-line at http://cattco.ecenterdirect.com and click on the training event link or by phone at (716) 938-9111 ext. 2331.
