The New York State trial courts for
Cattaraugus County include Supreme Court, County Court, Family Court
and Surrogate's Court. There are two "multibench" or
"multi-hat" Judges who preside in Family, County and
Surrogate's Court, and are also assigned to hear cases in Supreme
Court.
Unlike larger counties where Judges
usually sit in only one court, our Judges are required to be
familiar with numerous areas of legal practice and procedure since
they hear cases in all four Courts. The Judges are elected for 10
year terms. The Cattaraugus County Court facilities are
located in Little Valley and Olean.
